The Wearable Air Diary

Air is everywhere, yet we rarely notice it. It shapes our comfort, our energy, and even our health — but it remains invisible. I decided to pay attention to the air around me.
The Wearable Air Diary explores the invisible yet ever-present world of air quality, revealing how the air we breathe shifts across different environments. By collecting real-time data on temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels, and particulate matter, this project maps personal microclimates, turning them into visual narratives.

16 FEBRUARY 2025 – a peaceful, sunny Sunday in Barcelona

***

For 9 hours, wearing a Airduino sensor, I recorded the air I breathed as I moved through Barcelona: temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels and particulate matter. I wanted to see the air around me, engage with the invisible atmosphere. Does it make me more present and aware of its effects?

Read the diary and see how the air changed throughout the day

Air quality data was collected over a  9 hour period on 16 February 2025, using a wearable sensor capable of measuring key parameters: temperature, humidity, CO₂ levels, and particulate matter (PM1, PM2.5, PM10).

To enrich this data, additional contextual information was recorded, including metadata related to the spaces, such as type of space, size, number of people and noise levels. This combined dataset offers a more comprehensive understanding of how different environments impact air quality and personal well-being.

The study follows a personal, movement-based approach, with data recorded continuously while commuting, working, studying, cooking, and relaxing. The collected data is then transformed into visual narratives, making the invisible elements of air more tangible and engaging.
