Look Away

MADD 25

Every day an unfathomable amount of items are thrown away. But there is no away. Away is somewhere and I went there. I hacked the system and forced it to show me away. This project looks at the concept of away through different lenses in video format and seeks to focus viewers on a journey they are a part of but never spare a moment to think about.

The project follows the journey of away at the beginning, when the item leaves your hand, to its final resting place. Walking across a postnatural landscape so uncanny you want to look away, this project asks you to look. Look at away. Instead of focusing on the colossal figures on trash, recycling (or the lack thereof), this project looks at away at a micro level. What is in your trash can? Where is away? What items can be found there?
