Across five chapters the report shows how nostalgia, which is often seen as a personal, emotional memory, can be strategically used in political rhetoric, especially by far-right populist movements, to construct identity, fuel division, and legitimize regressive policies. Through data analysis, interviews, historical context, and a custom AI Bot (called ‘nostos’), it reveals how nostalgic language is weaponized in Germany’s 2025 election, with a focus on the far-right nationalist party AfD’s manifesto and campaign.
