What is the environmental impact of AI?
If you’ve ever wondered about the environmental cost of AI this is for you. Whether it enlightens you, changes your perspective or sparks reflection.

Behind the Screens is an interactive installation on Watt it takes to power AI.

It has three parts.
It first represents your individual AI interactions, second accumulates everybody’s interactions on a Screen, shifting the focus towards the collective energy usage. And third, references the light bulbs with an artefact containing vinyl dots visualizing key data points of the thesis.

Visualizing the hidden happenings behind frictionless interactions is the challenge of the research since there is a lack in industry transparency which inherently is the problem.
First exhibited in Les Tres Xemeneies, an old power plant that once provided Barcelona with electricity – a fitting place.
