The space tells about the dynamics of the blackpill ideology and looks at how these ideas influence the single and the mainstream. The experience is divided in three parts, the principles (hypergamy, looks and immutability), the actions (face rating and community) and the reactions (looksmaxxing).
Blackpilled is an exploration of Incel ideology, displayed through an installation that mimics the imaginary room of a member of this community.
The blackpill is an ideology that, in short, believes that looks are determined at birth, objectively rateable, and are the most crucial factor for success in every aspect of life. There is somewhat of an obsession within this community to reduce physical aesthetics to a science, attempting to find objective criteria for something that is relatively subjective.
Using different sources coming from within and outside the community, the project tries to display the different points of view without sensationalising this often misunderstood phenomenon. While it’s clear that the incel community can be toxic, their extremeness is also a mirror to larger societal issues. By getting to grips with their perspective, we can start to understand the underlying reasons why such a community has emerged in the first place.
