Though often marketed to consumers as something ephemeral, Artificial Intelligence has a large and hidden water footprint. I learned that a town in the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona will soon become home to the two largest data centres in Catalunya. Against the backdrop of Catalunya's long-term drought, I set out to investigate how much water these data centres will use.
