This year, our visual design master’s projects are centred around the theme of “Communities.” As graphic design students, we have had the opportunity to explore this concept while learning how different groups form and interact in Barcelona.

Our Spanish and English classes are formed by students of different origins, ages, and interests. This diversity is reflected in our projects. From Girona’s gentrification, petanca enthusiasts or local markets, to preppers, birdwatchers, skaters, theatre lovers, urban gardeners, Arab writers and newly arrived expats, each project reflects the essence of what makes a community: shared interests, cultural exchanges, and a deep sense of belonging.

Our goal was to use graphic design not just as a communication tool but as a catalyst for positive change. And overall, as a tool for integration. Though diverse, we all believe in the power of critical thinking—questioning the status quo, addressing social issues, and conceiving better futures.

That is why we are excited to share a bit of what we believe is a positive impact during this global crisis we are all immersed in. Through this degree show, we hope to inspire a more inclusive and connected world, where graphic design plays a pivotal role.
