We understand gentrification as a process of urban transformation in which the population of a neighborhood is progressively displaced by another with higher purchasing power. In this context, the project AL BARRI emerges as a community response based in the Barri Vell of Girona, a neighborhood facing a lifestyle model that turns homes into transactions and displaces local residents, eliminating all traces of community, closeness, and solidarity.
AL BARRI seeks to recover the identity of Barri Vell through active learning spaces among neighbors, tourists, local administrations, and the real estate sector. A set of freely accessible protest tools are used as a vehicle for amplifying and making visible the voices of the residents and the issue at hand, to finally invite the neighborhood to take action.
