WattWise

WattWise is your energy-awareness companion, blending AI technology and personalized advice to help you visualize the total energy you use in a day across food, transport and the home. By combining the data available from these topics and your own input on your daily habits, Wattwise offers real-time insights to build awareness of what your energy usage truly is, and offers advice to make small changes that have a big collective impact.

We Are In an Energy Crisis!

With record energy prices, fuel shortages, rising poverty, and slowing economies, we are in the first truly global energy crisis. The increasing demand for electricity and the current low supply make energy conservation more critical than ever. This demand is directly linked to the growing climate problems we face. According to Juliet Davenport, president of the Energy Institute, the planet has experienced severe climate impacts, including devastating floods in Pakistan and record heat events in Europe and North America. Despite these issues, 82% of the world’s energy still comes from fossil fuels, highlighting the need for urgent energy transition and habit changes. The International Energy Agency states that behavioral changes are crucial in the Net Zero Emissions by 2050 (NZE) Scenario, as private households account for approximately two-thirds of global emissions. This is the reason WattWise aims to empower people to reduce their energy consumption footprint without compromising their quality of life.

Throughout the project Oliver and Carlotta have been focussed on designing with others and using emerging technolgies to facilitate new habits. The has many phases and the main ones are as followed:

Turn on The Energy:

An exhibit set during MDEFFest X ACT, in which participants were invited to join and experience what you can power on and how much energy we truly consume in a day.

What is Energy for You?:

An interactive board in which people helped us better understand what they see the problem of energy being and what AI’s potential role in this could be. This was a crucial aspect as it alllowed us to gather data to further our project in the future.

WattWise Monitor:

An opensourced and low-tech energy monitor that allows for people to get a better sense of their energy consumption in their household. This connects to the energy bot on a persons phone for real-time insights and tips.

WattWise Bot:

WattWise offers a distinctive way for individuals to engage with their energy consumption.By empowering people with the knowledge to understand their energy usage, it promotes sustainable habits and responsible consumption. This initiative aids in transitioning towards a society that mitigates the environmental impact of our energy use.
