DECAF MEDITERRANEAN
This thesis / project investigates how modern individuals employ Mediterranean vernacular to perpetuate escapist images. These images -that can be described as “decaf images”, just like decaf coffee that is deprived of its harmful effects- serve to ignore the problems of current life. By creating Eden-like atmosphere, they serve to create an illusion that there is an idyllic place far away from the issues of contemporary life.
