Radici Erranti / Wandering Roots
Radici Erranti is a photographic project which explores the topic of biracial identity. It is the visual documentation of an imaginary journey in search of a forgotten self. Through the re-enactment of gestures and symbols typical of the Japanese culture, and the recovery of past memories, this project attempts to reconcile the dual nature of my roots.
Born in northern Italy from Italian-Japanese parents but without ever being exposed to Japanese culture, made me feel like something was missing throughout my entire life. Only later on, in my thirties, I realised that what I was missing was the acceptance of my Japanese roots. This is why I felt the need to produce this body of work - because remembering and recognising our roots is fundamental in our search for identity.
