Epoch
Our society stands on the brink of a new epoch, where traditions and cultural heritage are fading amid digitalization and industrialization. Sheep herding and natural raw wool are undervalued and discarded in today’s consumer society. Our project addresses this cultural and ecological shift, reflecting on the diminishing value of natural resources and pastoral practices.
To bring this vision to life, we created large metal sculptures incorporating raw wool, sourced from José, a local shepherd in Catalunya; forging a tactile connection to living organisms. The sculptures, which are movable and detachable, were created through cutting, welding, oxidizing, and sanding to achieve an organic texture. Our sculptures are intended to interact as a herd, the tallest one standing at 3.5 meters tall.
Our project aims to spark conversations on sustainability and cultural preservation in a rapidly changing world. It navigates a new epoch where traditional practices and modern industrial lifestyles can coexist. By juxtaposing wool’s rustic essence with industrial metal, we highlight the tension between past and present. Beyond commemorating a fading way of life, this installation challenges society to reevaluate the worth of natural resources and traditional practices.
Looking ahead, it aims to broaden public engagement and stimulate deeper discourse on sustaining cultural and ecological legacies.
